The mandate of the centre for Carbon Capture and Storage is executed through specific projects. Hence the request for proposals are published on the website from time to time. The Centre will not normally entertain unsolicited proposals.

A request for proposals was sent out on 3 September 2010 for the following projects:

• Definition of “plant readiness”
• Public/Stakeholder engagement
• Scoping study for the Test Injection Experiment of Carbon Dioxide into a Geological Formation

Projects in progress

The current projects in progress are:

• EuropeAid is supporting a consortium comprising SACCCS, CGS, PASA, Ecosecurities, BGS, TNO and Imbewu to execute the following 4 projects;
  • Building capacity in geological storage modeling.
  • Carbon dioxide storage in the Outeniqua basin.
  • Procedures for testing injection regulation.
  • Carbon financing mechanisms for the Test Injection Demonstration and commercial plant.
• Proposal for an ‘effective CO2 storage capacity assessment’ of the Zululand Basin.
  Contract awarded to Council for Geoscience
