As at the beginning of the year 2010, there are few publicly available research investigations being undertaken in South Africa regarding carbon capture and storage, especially by the academic institutions. More attention needs to be given to increasing academic studies, because;
- There is a need to produce a stream of persons qualified in aspects of carbon capture and storage. Without such individuals, South Africa will have insufficient qualified people to undertake carbon capture and storage projects.
- Centres of academic excellence in South Africa will enable international co-operation and researcher and student exchange.
In order to address these needs the Centre is supporting bursaries, student projects and is planning to support school projects.
